Sunshine Stars of Akure recorded an away win in far away Algeria on Friday night to boost their chances of picking a semi-final ticket in the ongoing CAF Champions League.
The Nigerian flag bearer defeated their hosts, A.S.O. Chlef of Algeria, by two goals to one, barely ywo weeks after defeating their opponents by two unreplied goals in Ijebu Ode.
Friday’s match, which kicked off 10pm Nigerian time, saw Sunshine Stars dictating the pace of the game in the early minutes.
The Coach Gbenga Ogunbote-led side dominated the match played inside the 15,000 capacity Stade Mohamed Boumezrag in the City of Chlef east of Algiers.
Izu Azuka put Sunshine in the lead in the 45th minute of play while Chlef leveled score in the 48th minute through P.E. Biyaga.
The home side suffered a setback with the expulsion of Gharbi in the 76th minute of play.
Alaba Adeniyi gave Sunshine the winner in the 78th minute of play.
Sunshine Stars, it is recalled, started the group stage of the CAF Champions league on poor note with an home defeat by Esperance in Ijebu Ode.
Apparently disappointed with the outcome of the match against Esperance, the home fans resulted into stoning the Nigerian players and match officials.
