CAF Champions League: Dolphins hit Malabo Thursday

A 28-man delegation of Nigeria’s flagbearers in the CAF Champions League,  Dolphins, will depart from Port Harcourt on Thursday for Malabo.
The Nigerian League champions have a date against Sony ela Nguema on February 19, 2012.

Incidentally in 2005 when Dolphins played in the CAF Champions League, they started in Malabo with Renacimiento and Dolphins qualified winning 3-1 on aggregate.
The team lost 1-0 in Malabo but won 3-0 in Port Harcourt.
Dolphins will travel with a delegation of 18 players and 10 officials.
In a related development, the management of Dolphins says there is no controversy involving banned Coach, Stanley Eguma, in the team as is being bandied around.
There have been stories making the rounds that Eguma stayed away from the dug-out when Dolphins played against Akwa United midweek because of the five-year ban on him by the Nigeria Football Federation Disciplinary Committee.
However, the Media Officer of the club, China Acheru, has decided to set the records straight as regards Eguma’s absence from the bench.
Acheru said: “Eguma did not stay away from Dolphins bench on Sunday. He was only just absent from the bench and it had nothing to do with the NFF’s ruling.
“Besides, we all know that when there is a ruling like that and the people at the wrong end of it decide to file an appeal, the ruling is put on hold until the end of the appeal process.”
The media officer revealed that about two hours to kick off against Akwa United, Eguma got news of an emergency at home and had to rush off, leaving Zachary Baraje in charge for the day.
He added: “We just want to set the records straight because there have been insinuations and we received lots of phone calls and other correspondence to that effect.
“He is the head of the Dolphins technical crew and remains part of our team.”
