A bus driver on Sunday rammed into and killed one of the officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission on duty.
The officer, whose name was still being withheld as at press time, was killed by the driver of a Young Shall Grow Motors luxury bus along the Benin-Sagamu Expressway.
According to the FRSC, the officer was on duty helping in the clearance of an accident scene when the bus rammed into him and the vehicles by the side of the road.
The FRSC official, was pushed into a nearby river.
His corpse was brought out after a search.
The incident, which occurred at Ososa in Ogun State, involved a Young shall Grow Motors luxury bus with registration number XC 373 NEN.
The FRSC added in a statement: “May his soul rest in peace.
“The Corps Marshal and Chief Executive has directed that the family should be contacted immediately.
“He commiserated with the family and the entire staff of the Corps for the painful loss.”
In another development, a stray bullet from a suspected robber’s gun has hit another officer of the commission in Maiduguri, Borno State on Sunday.
The FRSC officer, Ibrahim Idris, an Assistant Route Commander, was controlling traffic at the Post Office area of Maiduguri when he was hit by the stray bullet said to have been aimed at a women selling mobile phone recharge cards.
A report by the FRSC said Idris, who was hit by the bullet at about 2:30pm, was responding to treatment.
He was rushed to the Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri after the incident by officers and men of the Joint Task Force in Borno State.
