The police in Ogun State on Wednesday arraigned a 35-year-old bullion van driver, Temidayo Koyoro, at an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N17 million belonging to Stanbic IBTC Bank.
The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ozimini, told the court that the accused committed the offence on December 25, 2013.
Ozimini said that the accused conspired with one other person, presently at large, and stole the money belonging to the bank.
Ozimini said that the accused and his accomplice had transported cash in the bullion van from the Ibadan, Oyo State branch of the bank to its Abeokuta branch where it was discovered that N17 million was missing.
“It was after verification that the bank personnel observed that one of the bag of cash had been opened with N17 million missing,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006.
Koyoro pleaded not guilty to the charge and his counsel, Wale Ogunsanwo, prayed the court to grant him bail.
The Magistrate, Emmanuel Adekunte, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case to February 11 for mention.
