President Muhammadu Buhari has been charged to leave a lasting legacy as he begins his second term in office.
The charge was given by a Legal Practitioner and Leader of the Buhari Support Organisations in the United Kingdom, J.K. Adebola, in a statement shortly after President Buhari took his second term oath of office at the Eagle Square, Abuja.
Adebola, who is also an Executive member of the All Progressives Congress in the UK, said: “Since the advent of this administration Nigerians have been awakened to the realisation that the putrefaction in the system and the psyche of many people runs deeper than anyone can fathom.
“The uncovering of Billions and even Trillions of our common patrimony being siphoned into private pockets and sometimes as payments to marabouts by our past leaders whilst leaving the downtrodden masses in penury, stinks to high heavens.”
Adebola added that the swearing in of Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has ushered in another dawn after the new dawn of May 29, 2015.
He said: “An opportunity has again presented itself to take Nigeria to the Next Level as expounded by the APC at the last electioneering campaign.
“Nigeria is entering into another dimension to consolidate on the achievements made thus far by this administration.”
Adebola acknowledged the myriads of challenges before the administration, some of which it has surmounted, but added that there is still so much more to do and advised the President to continue in the current trajectory of growth and “rebalancing of our economy as well as upping the ante in respect of the pockets of insurgencies around the country which he believes are the machinations of some unscrupulous elites bent
on disorganising the unity of the country”.
He also enjoined President Buhari to use his second term and the Next Level agenda to ensure continuance of good governance for the purpose of giving dividends of democracy to all Nigerians and, most especially, to leave a legacy that will outlast him when he leaves office in 2023 and which will serve as a yardstick to measure future leaders in Nigeria.
Adebola said to achieve the Next Level agenda and leave a lasting legacy that will be unsurpassable for a long time, the President needs to reach out to credible and upright Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to co-opt them into his government in an all-inclusive administration.
He added that he strongly believes “we have such Nigerians (albeit negligible in number) scattered around the globe. This government therefore needs to inject new and fresh brains with those already there presently that will bring new innovation to governance.
The Buhari Support Organisations called for the continued implementation of the policies growing small business; Implementation of the TSA, which has succeeded in plugging the loopholes through which our common patrimony is being looted by unscrupulous elements; Astuteness of this administration in managing the economy, which brought the country out of recession in record time, yet unsurpassed globally and steering the ship of governance of Nigeria steadily toward a prosperous future; Banning fraudulent foreign vessels lifting of crude oil and putting an end to importation of Rice and other products, which has led to increase in production and consumption of local farm produce for the benefit of our local farmers; and The Anchor Borrowers’ Programme of the Central Bank aimed at fast tracking access of rural farmers to finance productivity. The ABP programme has made available more than N82billion in funding to over 350,000 farmers of rice, wheat, maize, cotton, cassava, poultry, soy beans and groundnut, who have cultivated about 400,000 hectares of land.
The BSO also demanded for the Decimating the threat of insurgency and Boko Haram; Diversification and rebalancing of our economy consequent upon which Agriculture is now thriving; The School Feeding programme, which is the first of its kind in the history of
Nigeria and currently feeds more than 9.5 million pupils and through which hundreds of thousands of jobs are being created; The resuscitation of our dilapidated road and rail networks across the six geopolitical zones; The increase in the generation and distribution of power across the country from 2000 megawatts in 2015 to over 5000 megawatts; and Construction of the second Niger Bridge among others.
Adebola also listed a nine-point agenda compiled by members of the Buhari Support
Organisations, UK Chapter for focus by the President.
These are:
1. Power Sector – To resolve the power sector situation in the country and ensure steady and uninterrupted power supply to the populace. This we believe will not only affect our economy positively but will ensure the name President Mohammad Buhari is forever embedded in the psyche of this and future generation of Nigerians.
2. Health – To build at least one state of the art Hospital in each of the 6 geopolitical zones in the country.
3. Security – We urge the President to ensure that all perpetrators and, most especially, the sponsors of the current security challenges in the country to embarrass and undermine this government are fished out and the full force of the law is brought to bear on them. This will serve as a deterrent to others with such devious mind-set.
4. NASS – Ensuring that credible.
5. Education – To revive our Education system and stop further issuance of licences for private universities and instead encourage applicants to engage in revamping our educational institutions through private partnership.
6. Refineries – Our Refineries needs to be revamped to put a final stop to our dependence of refining our oil outside the shores of the land and to forestall obvious sabotage by unscrupulous and dubious elements in the country. The President has done it before and he can do it again.
7. Corruption – To intensify its action on combatting corruption by further empowering EFCC and ICPC in the quest to bring all economic saboteurs to book. The government should also embark on pro-active policies of preventing the act of corruption in both public and private establishments in the country.
8. Job/Employment – The Government should embark on a rigorous exercise of providing an enabling environment for the creation of gainful employment for our restive youths especially the unemployed graduates.
9. To ensure that the government head-hunts credible Nigerians scattered around the globe to assist this government especially in the area of policy formulation and implementation.
