National leader of Nigeria’s opposition Congress for Progressive Change party, CPC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has canceled activities for his 70th birthday celebrations as a mark of honour to the victims of Saturday’s helicopter crash in Bayelsa State, south-south Nigeria.
Retired General Muhammadu Buhari says the ceremony slated for Monday cannot hold in the midst of what he describes as a monumental tragedy.
The former head of state added that he feels a deep sense of loss over the death of Governor Yakowa and General Azazi.
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan has ordered an investigation into the helicopter crash that killed Governor Patrick Yakowa and the former NSA retired General Andrew Azazi.
A statement from the Office of the President’s spokesman indicated that he has also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased.
And in a related development, the President’s wife Patience Jonathan has also cancelled her planned thanksgiving Service indefinitely.
