Senate on Thursday resolved to summon the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele over banning of Cryptocurrency.
The lawmakers also invited the Security Exchange Commission for further information on the issue.
The decision of the Senate was sequel to a motion sponsored by Senator Gyang Istifanus over the decision to stop Financial Institutions from transacting in Crypto currencies .
The CBN governor is expected to appear before the Joint Committees on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Capital Market and ICT.
Senator Gyang said,”Crypto Currency is both an opportunity and a threat, hence the Senate has a responsibility to ensure that the nation and citizens do not miss the opportunities that the Crypto currency offers and in the same vein, mitigate and prevent likely consequential effects on the nation’s economy and security. “
