The Senate on Tuesday ordered its standing Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial institutions to screen the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, for reappointment as head of the apex bank.
The Senate gave the Committee one week to submit its report on Emefiele for consideration.
President Muhammadu Buhari had last week forwarded the letter reappointing Emefiele as CBN Governor to the Senate for consideration.
However, at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, the Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, moved for the consideration of President Buhari’s request on Emefiele and the motion was seconded by the Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Philip Adudua.
The tenure of Emefiele as CBN governor is expected to end on June 2.
