The Senate on Wednesday confirmed a former Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Muiz Banire, as the Chairman of the Assets Management Company of Nigeria.
The confirmation came amid fears that Banire’s nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari would be turned down because of opposition from his State, Lagos.
Banire was at loggerheads with the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, shortly before the election of national officers of the party, a development that led to his not being reelected.
So also did the Lagos State Government demolish a building he bought in the Ikeja GRA in Lagos State, where his mother resided, in the thick of the disagreement.
This has led to fears that Senators representing Lagos State will oppose his nomination as the AMCON boss.
