The people of Geidam town in Yobe came to vote despite reported attack by Boko Haram insurgents in the area in the early hours of Saturday.
The Army confirmed the attack in a statement by its spokesman, Colonel Sagir Musa.
The attack was said to have been on a security outpost in Geidam general area in Yobe State.
Musa said no casualty was recorded.
However, despite the attack, the people were said to have trooped out to vote in the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
Sagir confirmed this when he said: “The situation is calm and peaceful.
“People have largely turned out to cast their votes without any hindrance.”
