A comparative analysis of candidates who scored five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, for 2018 and 2019 showed 62.48 per cent for 2018 and 48.68 per cent in 2019, which represents a decrease of 13.8 per cent in 2019.
According to Gana: “In the performance of candidates, 41,214 candidates, representing 63 per cent, obtained credit pass in English Language, and 54,565 candidates, making 82.18 per cent, obtained pass at credit level in Mathematics.
“33,576 candidates, representing 48.68 per cent, got five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics. While 50,057 candidates, representing 72.57 per cent, got five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.”
As for candidates’ involvement in examination malpractice offences in 2019 when compared to 2018, Gana said: “here is an upward trend; while in 2018 a total of 12,084 candidates were involved in malpractice, 17,004 cases were recorded in 2018.
“This reflects the desperation by candidates seeking to cut corners. This also shows the determination by the Council to apprehend culprits, in line with our zero tolerance for examination malpractice.”
