Another attempt by the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, to stop his trial by the Code of Conduct Tribunal has been rebuffed by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
The court, presided over by Justice Abdul Kafarati, said Saraki must face his trial by the CCT over allegations of false declaration of assets.
Kafarati said the application by Saraki did not justify the claims he demanded from the court.
He said the CCT was a properly constituted court and as such has the backing of the constitution to carry out its assigned duties, including the trial of Saraki.
The Court also said since Saraki’s attempt to stop the trial at the Court of Appeal failed, a lower court ruling otherwise would be a nullity.
Kafarati ruled: “If the court grants the application, there will be conflict with the ruling of the appellate Court
“I do not see the need to go to the merit of the case.”
