The President, Muhammadu Buhari, has fired the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi.
Though it was yet to be made official as at press time, senior directors in the civil service have been directed not to route their memos to and through Kifasi any longer.
A replacement was also yet to be officially announced as at press time.
It was learnt that Kifasi was relieved of his duty in order to fulfil the Federal Character principle as enshrined in Nigeria’s Constitution.
An online platform, PRNigeria, had shortly before the sacking of Kifasi hinted that the former HOS had prepared his handover note in anticipation of his removal.
This was said to be premised on the fact that Kifasi is from the same geopolitical zone, the North East, as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal.
While Kifasi is from Taraba State, Lawal is from Adamawa State.
PRNigeria said it gathered that Kifasi, who had served as Permanent Secretary in several ministries, including Finance and Petroleum, will likely be replaced by a Southerner.
