The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma; Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Dr. Ita Enang; and the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission are at present in the National Assembly.
The three top officials of the Federal Government are appearing before the Joint National Assembly Panel on INEC to clarify the N189 billion budget for the 2019 elections by the electoral body.
The meeting was deadlocked on Thursday as legislators from both the Senate and House of Representatives had different opinions on the budget.
While some want the N189 billion requested for by INEC approved, others believe the N143 billion contained in the supplementary budget submitted to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari was enough for the elections.
Buhari had in a N242 billion supplementary budget proposed N143 billion for INEC, while security agencies, especially the Department of State Services, will get the rest.
Following the sharp disagreement, the panel decided to summon Yakubu again on the matter.
