The candidate of the Labour Party for the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Abia State, Alex Otti, has been declared the winner of the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared him the winner on Wednesday evening after an imbroglio.
Otti polled more votes ahead of his main challenger and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party opponent, Okey Ahiwe, and Enyinnaya Nwafor of the Young Peoples Party.
The declaration was made by the INEC Returning Officer for the poll, Prof. Nnenna Nnannaya-Oti, after the suspension of the results announcement on Monday.
Nnannaya-Oti said she will stand on the principle of fairness in announcing the winner of the poll.
The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State said: “I shall stand squarely and unapologetically on these principles.
“The people’s votes and mandate shall stand.
“The pastor and the mother in me will not permit me to do anything that will adversely affect the future of our children.”
