The National Assembly has accused States Governors of frustrating the review of the 1999 Constitution.
The Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, levelled the accusation when he spoke with newsmen on Tuesday.
Omo-Agege, the Co-Chairman of the National Assembly 1999 Constitution Amendment Ad-hoc Committee, spoke with newsmen on the development in Abuja.
This followed the failure of States Houses of Assembly to assent to the 44 amendments proposed by the National Assembly committee to the 1999 constitution.
According to Omo-Agege, only 11 States Assemblies had assented to the amendments, while 25 were yet to.
The Co- Chairman of Adhoc Committee on Review of the Constitution, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege said that some state governors are behind the decision of Conference of Speakers.
According to him, some State Governors have pocketed their States Assemblies, adding: The hand is the hand of Esau and voice is the voice of Jacob.
“Suppose we ignore this brazen attempt by some governors to truncate a constitutional process.
“In that case, we will ultimately be enablers of the undermining of a critical bulwark of our democracy, which should not be.”
