The Governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatai Ahmed, has officially withdrawn from the Kwara South Senatorial District race on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
There had been speculations that the leader of his party and President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, had ordered the forfeiture of the ticket by Ahmed following the loss of the bye election into the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency, from where he hails.
However, in the early hours of Tuesday, it was confirmed that he had conceded the seat to the incumbent, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim.
Ibrahim confirmed, as explained by Ahmed, that the need to give Ibolo people the opportunity of second term ticket necessitated the change of candidate for the election.
Ahmed’s name had earlier been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Ibrahim commended the Kwara State governor for ceding the ticket to him, adding that this indeed was leadership by example.
He also thanked Saraki for granting the request of Ibolo Division of Kwara State.
