The Federal Government has ordered soldiers occupying the premises of Daily Trust newspapers in Abuja, Lagos and Maiduguri in Borno State to vacate them immediately.
This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, on Sunday.
Writing on his Twitter handle, Shehu said the military had since vacated the premises.
He tweeted: “The Federal Government has directed the military to vacate the premises of @daily_trust and the order has been complied with. Issues between the military and the newspaper as they affect the coverage of the war in the Northeast will be resolved through dialogue.”
Soldiers had in the early hours of Sunday invaded the premises of Daily Trust in Maiduguri, taking with them two editorial staff.
This was followed by the invasion of the headquarters of the newspaper in Abuja, with no fewer than 10 computers taken away and staff asked to vacate the premises.
Later in the evening, the newspaper reported that its Lagos office had also been surrounded by soldiers.
