Explosive devices sent by mail to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have been intercepted.
This was revealed by the US Secret Service on Wednesday via a statement and the Twitter handle of its New York office.
A package addressed to Clinton in New York State was recovered late on Tuesday.
The one for Obama was intercepted in Washington early on Wednesday morning.
The devices, according to the Secret Service, were discovered by technicians who screen mails sent to former US officials.
According to the statement from the US Secret Service, the first package recovered was addressed to Clinton late on Tuesday, adding: “Early this morning, October 24, 2018, a second package addressed to the residence of Former President Barack Obama was intercepted by Secret Service personnel in Washington, DC.
“Both packages were intercepted prior to being delivered to their intended location. The protectees did not receive the packages nor were they at risk of receiving them.”
