Vice President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) has declared his readiness to waive his constitutional immunity to “enable the most robust adjudication” of several baseless allegations, insinuation and falsehoods against his person and office.
Prof. Osinbajo made this declaration in a tweet he personally authored on Wednesday afternoon.
He tweeted: “In the past few days, a spate of reckless and malicious falsehoods have been peddled in the media against me by a group of malicious individuals.
“The defamatory and misleading assertions invented by this clique had mostly been making the social media rounds anonymously.
“I have today instructed the commencement of legal action against two individuals, one Timi Frank and another Katch Ononuju, who have put their names to these odious falsehoods.
“I will waive my constitutional immunity to enable the most robust adjudication of these claims of libel and malicious falsehood.”
Frank had alleged that sources in the Presidency told him that Osinbajo had come under attack for receiving N90 billion from the Federal Inland Revenue Service for the purpose of the 2019 general election.
He said the money was for the Vice President to deliver the South West geopolitical zone to his party, the All Progressives Congress.
He said the issue, which he alleged President Muhammadu Buhari is conversant with, became a touchy one following the performance of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the election.
The FIRS denied the development.
Frank, however, insisted on his position, saying he was ready to defend himself in court.
