The Abia State Government has raised the alarm that some politicians have reached an advanced stage in their plot to disrupt the March 9, 2019 Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
The alarm was raised in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Enyinnaya Appolos, on Saturday.
The statement particularly laid emphasis on the protection of facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state.
In this wise, Ikpeazu has directed all the 17 Transition Council Chairmen and their Deputies to immediately liaise with security agencies, local vigilante services, traditional rulers and youths to ensure the protection of all INEC facilities within their local government areas.
The statement added: “They are also to ensure that the March 9 election is peaceful before, during and after the exercise.
“This directive is sequel to intelligence reports received by the state government that desperate unscrupulous politicians are advanced in their plot to import hoodlums from outside the state to disrupt the coming elections for their selfish reasons.”
