Insecurity in the Northern part of Nigeria is fast taking its toll on the round leather game of football in Nigeria.
The management of Warri Wolves Football Club has decided the club will not feature in the group stage of the Federation Cup that gets underway on Monday.
The management of Delta State-owned outfit had filed a complaint with the Nigeria Football Federation over the level of insecurity in Bauchi, Bauchi State, which will host the Group A matches of the Federation Cup.
The team said it will not go back on its earlier stand of not travelling to Bauchi, if the NFF insists on the Northern venue.
It said the level of insecurity, occasioned by the attack of dreaded sect, Boko Haram, has made it a risky venture travelling up North.
Timi Ebikagboro, the spokesman of the club, confirmed the decision not to make the trip to Bauchi.
Ebikagboro said: “We are not going.
“The players said they can’t go to Bauchi and we cannot force them because we are talking of security here.
“Let them do the mandatory walk over.
“We are not going to Bauchi.”
The President of the NFF, Aminu Maigari, has insisted that the Group A teams, made up of Lobi Stars, Enyimba, Wolves and Samba FC will play their matches in Bauchi.
Maigari promised that adequate security would be provided.
