The Defence Headquarters has denied that 150 persons were either shot to death or drowned in a river following the attack of Boko Haram on a Yobe State village.
Kukuwa-Gari village was reportedly attacked by the terrorists on Thursday.
But the Defence Headquarters in a statement by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Colonel Rabe Abubakar, said there is no iota of truth in the report.
Rather, Abubakar said it was a confrontation between the military and the insurgents.
He said based on intelligence report that the terrorists were poised to attacked Kukuwa-Gari, troops mobilised alongside the Civilian JTF.
He said during the encounter, four terrorists were killed and a member of the Civilian JTF lost his life.
Abubakar added: “At the end of the encounter, 2 x AK 47 rifles and 2 x motorcycles used by the Boko Haram terrorists were recovered from them.
“The Armed Forces therefore implore the media to always seek clarification of stories before going to press as most of these unsubstantiated reports tend to embolden or encourage the terrorists to believe they are invincible, thus instilling perpetual fear in the minds of the citizens, especially, those in the contested areas of the North East.
“The military is doing all within its power to protect lives and property of Nigerians in any part of the country and thus, solicits cooperation and understanding of the media to be partners in progress in this noble task.”
