The Christian Association of Nigeria, South East chapter, has expressed its dissatisfaction with the manner President Goodluck Jonathan has been handling the Boko Haram crisis.
CAN said that Jonathan has shown weakness in the handling of the issues in Northern Nigeria, a development it said could engulf him.
The body also faulted the handling of the security situation in the country by the Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim.
The position of the apex Christian association was made known in Enugu after a meeting on Monday.
The South-East zonal chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria on Monday evening condemned President Goodluck Jonathan’s leadership style and said he was weak in handling the crises in northern Nigeria.
Chairman of the CAN in the South East, Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, who briefed newsmen, said that there was an urgent need to resolve the Boko Haram issue, which has led to the death of many Nigerians.
Chukwuma, who is also the Bishop of Enugu Diocese of the Anglican Communion, said: “The South East Christian Association of Nigeria is totally against violence and anything that would bring discomfort to Nigerians and President Goodluck Jonathan.”
On Ringim, CAN said it has lost confidence in his ability to safeguard the lives of Nigerians, adding that he should by now not be occupying his present position having shown incompetence.
It wondered why Jonathan still retained Ringim as the IGP.
Chukwuma added: “We want the President to explain to us the covenant he has with Ringim, because the immediate past Inspector General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo, did not do as bad as this.”
Chukwuma said Christians would no longer watch as members of the Boko Haram continue to kill them, adding that members of the sect will face the wrath of God.
