The Benue State Commissioner for Sports, Aondowase Chia, says that the state has what it takes to be among the best three states at the 18th National Sports Festival to enable it benefit from the Federal Government’s largesse promised the three best teams at the festival.
The Vice President, Architect Namadi Sambo, during the opening ceremony of “Eko 2012”, announced that the Federal Government will reward the overall best state with N30million, second best N20 million, while the third placed team will be N10 million richer.
According to Chia, Benue State, as part of its efforts to ensure that it occupies an enviable position at the festival, has put in place logistics to make the state athletes perform well, even as he regretted that Darts, which is one of its strongest sports, was removed by the organizers of the festival.
He noted that the state, apart from targeting occupying a good position at the festival, is also going to handsomely reward the state’s athletes who win medals at the festival.
