Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin on Monday recorded their first win in the 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League by beating visiting Lobi Stars FC of Makurdi 1-0.
Charles Omokaro’s 73rd minute goal gave the hosts victory in the rescheduled Group A Match Day 6 fixture.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Bendel Insurance were playing their second home game in the abridged competition, coming after 11 years in the Nigeria National League.
Speaking after the match, the Head Coach of Bendel Insurance FC, Baldwin Bazuaye, expressed delight with his team’s performance, saying it was a good win for them.
Bazuaye said however that he expected to see more of aggressive play from the players, adding that he wanted to see more of this because they needed to win more games.
He, however, called on the club’s fans to be patient with his players, saying they had less time in preparing for the elite league.
On his part, the Head Coach of Lobi Stars, Solomon Ogbeide, expressed satisfaction with his players’ performance in spite of the loss.
“But the home side were more determined to win the match,” he said.
Ogbeide however promised an improvement from his boys in coming games.
