Bayern Munich won their 24th Bundesliga title on Tuesday night with an emphatic 3-1 win away to Hertha Berlin in a monumental game that ensured them of their first trophy of the season, with seven rounds of the league still left to play.
It may have taken 27 games, 25 victories and 79 goals for Bayern to claim their title yet debutant Coach, Pep Guardiola, will be over the moon with the manner in which such a feat was done.
Berlin, with the mammoth task of getting in between Guardiola’s squad and their trophy, succumbed rather early on, with two opening goals from Toni Kroos and Mario Gotze concluding a 20-minute spell from kick-off that saw the Bavarian side essentially kill off the game before some of the home team had even touched the ball.
The second half was a more timid affair in which Jos Luhukay’s side regained their composure and even pulled a goal back when powerful striker, Adrian Ramos, converted a penalty in the 66th minute.
The Colombian had been pestering the Bayern defence for much of the game and now looked to spoil the Bavarian parade.
Then up stepped Franck Ribery, the proverbial hero of this star-studded side, to finish the game off as he has done on countless occasions.
With a simple flick of the boot before the onrushing Thomas Kraft in the Hertha goal, the Frenchman chipped the shot and finished the move, the game and ultimately the Bundesliga season.
Bayern are champions in March.
