As political parties prepare for the December 5 governorship poll in Bayelsa State, the All Progressives Congress has promised to conduct free and transparent primaries to decide its candidate.
The party said in a statement from its Publicity Secretary, Fortune Panebi, in Yenagoa on Friday that delegates were being encouraged to go for the best to brighten the party’s chances.
The party also denied allegations that the delegates were being coerced to vote in a particular direction.
The statement rejected suggestions that its Chairman, Twei Orunimigha, was harassing delegates.
It described such claims as false.
“The allegations are malicious and calculated to destabilise the peace among the old and new members of the party,” the statement said.
“The party leader in the state, Mr Timipre Sylva, has always emphasised the need for a level playing ground for all aspirants,” the statement said.
The party assured its supporters and other stalwarts of a fair treatment and cautioned them against being deceived by members of the opposition and even insiders desperate to cause confusion.
