The battle for who will govern Ekiti State in the next four years will be fought and won on Saturday (today) or latest in the early hours of Sunday (today) as the people of the state go to the poll.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared its readiness to conduct a free and fair poll devoid of complaints.
There are three major contenders for the governorship seat.
These are the incumbent, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who is flying the flag of the All Progressives Congress; a former Governor of the state and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ayo Fayose; and a member of the House of Representatives and candidate of the Labour Party, Hon. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele.
There are 18 political parties in all taking part in the election.
However, as at press time on Saturday morning, the concentration of the battle had become the media.
Between Friday night and Saturday morning, the media, especially the online, was bombarded with accusations and counter-accusations by the major political parties in the election.
Sunch claims include the usage of the military for the alleged victimisation of Fayemi and his supporters.
The APC at the national level, early on Saturday morning equally issued a statement in this regard.
There are also reports of the massive deployment of money by the ruling party in the state, the APC, especially by its National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Based on the reports reaching The Eagle Online from the field, it will be more of intimidation by the political gladiators off the polling units that will win the election and not actual votes..
The battle, to a large extent, will be fought on the pages of newspapers, especially online.
A lot of voters, it was learnt are staying back home for fear of the unknown.
