Disturbed by spate of unabated killings by suspected Fulanis in Irigwe Chiefdom of Bassa Local Government of Plateau State, the Christian Association of Nigeria has called on government to do something urgent for the sake of peace.
The CAN, in a statement issued by its Northern Chairman, Rev. Yakubu Pam, condemned the attacks in Irigwe chiefdom, saying it is unfortunate that the Fulanis and Irigwe, who have been living together, would resort to taking arms against themselves.
According to him: “The natives and Fulani herdsmen in Irigwe chiefdom should be seen to be working together for the progress of the land, and there should be mechanisms on the ground for the resolution of dispute among themselves.”
Pam commended the state government for working round the clock since it came on board to see that peace returned to the state.
He however challenged the state government not to rest on its oars and put necessary mechanisms on ground to ensure that those behind the recent attacks and killings in Jos South, Bassa and the recent killing of a former Head of the Civil Service of the state, Moses Gwom, and a soldier in Barkin Ladi are brought to book.
He appealed to all residents of the state to see that Plateau is home for all and should lay down their arms and embrace peace.
