The leadership crisis rocking the Nigeria Premier League took a new turn on Tuesday when the embattled chairman, Victor Baribote Rumson stepped down.
The Premier League has also called off its seventh congress scheduled for Abuja on Tuesday.
These were part of decisions reached after an emergency meeting of the board of the NPL on Monday.
The former Chairman of Bayelsa United said that he accepted the decision in the best interest of Nigerian football.
A three-man committee was set up to “investigate the crisis in the league” for a three-week period.
The three-man committee is chaired by Barrister Leye Adepoju with Ade Ojeikere and Kasali Obanonye as members.
He also expressed confidence that he would return to the post of NPL chairman in three weeks.
“The NPL board had a meeting and it was agreed that I step aside temporarily to allow the three-man committee complete their investigations into the reasons behind the crisis of the NPL,” Baribote said.
However, the club owners insisted on Tuesday that the 7th annual Congress will on Tuesday as endorsed by the Nigeria Football Federation NFF.
