The Kwara State Bankers’ Forum, Offa Branch, says all commercial banks in Offa, Kwara State will reopen for business on February 3.
Monday Olotewo, the Branch Controller of Central Bank of Nigeria, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria in Ilorin on Friday.
NAN recalls that banks in Offa were shut on December 19, 2013 when armed robbers stormed some banks in the town, killing a number of people.
Besides, the robbers also raided a divisional police station in the town.
Consequently, the frequent robberies on banks in the state forced banks in Ilorin to shut doors to customers by 2pm ins tea of the earlier time of 4pm.
Olotewo told NAN that the forum also agreed to lift restriction on banking hours in Ilorin.
He said that the banks in Offa were being reopened because the community had shown commitment to collaborate with security agents to check the menace.
He said that the state government also promised to build more police posts in the area.
Meanwhile, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has commended the forum for restoring normal banking operations in Ilorin and Offa.
Ahmed gave the commendation in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Dr. Muhideen Akorede, on Thursday in Ilorin.
