vThe Oyo State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday said it had taken delivery of some electoral materials, including ballot boxes, ahead of the February general elections.
Alhaji Ayodele Folami, the Head of Public Affairs and Voter Education of INEC in the state, disclosed this to newsmen in Ibadan.
Although Folami did not disclose when the materials arrived in the state and where they were being kept, he said that the commission was ready to conduct free, fair and credible elections in the country.
He confirmed that a new Resident Electoral Commissioner had assumed duty in the state.
He said that the REC, Alhaji Nasir Ayilara, had begun consultation with security agencies and relevant organisations for concerted effort at ensuring that peace prevailed in the state during the polling period.
According to him, the new REC has resumed and has embarked on familiarisation visits to the Police Command and other security agencies in the state for cooperation and support.
Folami said that the recent protest against Ayilara’s posting to the state was misdirected.
