Babies’ kidnappers arrested in Delta

Officers and men of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Squad in Delta State on Friday swooped on babies’ kidnappers operating in Ashaka, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects include one Ogun Goddey, a 45-year-old man; Ijeoma Uzor, 35; and Obiose Cornelius, 35.
The gang allegedly disguised as Ndokwa East Vigilante group members when they abducted a three-year-old, Destiny, before they were caught.
The gang, said the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Lucky Uyabeme, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, before taking their victim to their den, robbed his parents of their N100,000.
Dissatisfied with their loot, the gang put a call across to Destiny’s parents after robbing them and beating them to coma, demanding a ransom of N300,000 if they want their son released unhurt.
“Sequel to that,” the PPRO said, “operatives of the squad commenced investigations and arrested the suspects, who later turned out to be the chairman, his deputy and members of Ashaka Vigilante group.
“Immediately the suspects were arrested and due to the heat mounted by our men, the child was released unhurt without payment of ransom,” the PPRO said.
He listed the items recovered from them to include two single barrel guns.
He said investigation was on to arrest fleeing members of the gang.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ayo Ikechukwu Aduba, has disbanded the Ashaka Vigilante group over their involvement in the kidnapping saga.
Paraded with the kidnapping suspects were two armed robbers, who allegedly snatched a Lexus Jeep, with registration number GBJ 416 AA, from one Roland Ekpemupolo at gun point in Effurun axis of the state.
While the commissioner said the Jeep has since been recovered, he said “no criminal will escape from facing the full wrath of the law if caught.”
