AVB eyes second signing

Andre Villas-Boas says Chelsea could sign one more player in addition to their potential swoop for Bolton’s Gary Cahill during this month’s transfer window.

But the Portuguese boss insists he will not pay over the odds for a prospective target in what he admits is a ‘difficult’ market.

The Blues are reportedly still locked in talks with Trotters stopper Cahill, with the two clubs having already agreed a fee for the England international.

Chelsea have also been linked with a host of other targets, including star Porto forward Hulk and Juventus winger Milos Krasic.

Villas-Boas has revealed the Blues will try to sign one other player in addition to a central defender, but admits it could be difficult at a time of year when clubs are reluctant to part ways with their players for a reasonable price.

He told a press conference on Sky Sports News: “Apart from the central defender we might get one more player in, but we’re not sure yet.

We’ve seen Demba Ba backed from 12/1 into 11/10 this afternoon to move to Stamford Bridge! Bet now.

.”It’s always difficult (in January). First of all, the top talent is normally cup-tied in the Champions League, or in the different domestic competitions.

Struggle

“It’s difficult for the selling club to make players available. So it’s normal to struggle in the transfer market.

“Normally it’s a market where you overpay a lot and that’s not what we want to do now. I think that’s why we’ve set out not to do a lot in the transfer window.”

Blues winger Gael Kakuta has claimed he is close to joining Ligue 1 outfit Dijon on loan for the rest of the season, while misfiring £50million striker Fernando Torres has been linked with a short-term move elsewhere.

However, Villas-Boas says he is unwilling to part ways with players at this stage in the campaign.

“We don’t have a lot of players that we are going to send out on loan,” he added.

“Those conversations were made at the beginning of the season and eventually we went on from that. There were conversations regarding one or two players that went the other way.”
