Auto crash claims two on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Two people were confirmed dead in an auto crash that occurred on Friday near Ajanla on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The vehicles involved were an Abuja-bound white Toyota Hiace bus marked Lagos XA 889 SMK and an unregistered black Liberty Jeep.
The two victims, both male adults, were said to have died on the spot.
Sanya Adeoye, the Assistant Corps Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Oluyole Unit 1, said one of the drivers lost control while trying to overtake.
Adeoye said: “Immediately the FRSC team was informed, it moved to the scene to rescue and ascertain the cause of the crash.
“We were told by a surviving victim in the bus that the jeep tried to overtake them in a reckless manner.
“She said in the process, the driver of the jeep lost control and hit the bus on the side, which led to the crash.”
Adeoye said 18 passengers were involved in the crash, with four in the jeep and 14 in the bus, comprising of 11 male and seven female adults.
He added that the corpses of the victims had been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital morgue in Ibadan.
Adeoye said that the injured victims were rescued and taken for treatment at the University College Hospital, Ibadan.
He added: “Motorists should always have at the back of their minds that the importance of a journey is to travel from point A to point B safely.
“Doing this will serve as a guide for them to drive appropriately without being a danger to other road users.
“They must avoid overspeeding, drive cautiously and defensively because of the bad roads and the rains.”
