The driver of a Range Rover Jeep, Akin Akinyemi, has been arrested by the police in Lagos State for crushing mother and child to death. Akinyemi reportedly ran into mother and child at Jakande First Gate Bus Stop, Victoria Island-Epe Expressway. Though the two victims did not die on the spot from the injuries they sustained, they later died on their way to the hospital. The vehicle had plate registration number LSR 261 AE. The spokesman of a former Governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, Sule Ya’u, has denied that his boss was arrested by the Department of State Security Service over purported links with Boko Haram. Ya’u, in a telephone interview with The Eagle Online said there was no truth in the story which was a major highlight on African Independent Television. The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers today began a strike to protest the sacking of some of their members on Wednesday by MRS Oil and Gas Plc. An Abuja High today told a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, and his then deputy, Alhaji. Usman Bayero Nafada, to go home and sin no more in respect of a case of N40 billion loan for which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission filed a 17-count charge of conspiracy and criminal breach of trust against them. Justice Suleiman Belgore said both Bankole and Nafada did not contravene any known financial regulations to warrant their being tried.
Lagos lawyer and one of the leading counsels of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commision, Festus Keyamo, has disagreed with the ruling of the Federal High Court that said the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hin. Dimeji Bankole, and his then deputy, Nafada, have no case to answer over the N40 billion corruption case brought against them. Keyamo, in a statement, said the judge, Justice S.B. Belgore, erred in many aspects of his ruling. Keyamo, the lead prosecutor in the case, said the statement he issued is a personal one and not on behalf of the EFCC.

Governor Olusegun Mimiko who presented the 2012 budget tagged “A CARING HEART BUDGET III” to the State House of Assembly yesterday, said it is geared towards further consolidation of the present administration’s three years achievements. The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, has beentold by the Federal High Court, Calabar, Cross River State to vacate his stool. Otu has been locked in a legal tussle since 2008 with a former Minister of Finance, Chief Anthony Ani, and four other persons.
