The American University of Nigeria is working out modalities with the National Universities Commission to introduce degree courses in Engineering, Medicine and Public Health.
The President of the University, Margie Ensign, made this known at the matriculation of 157 students for class of 2018 and 2020 in Yola.
According to Ensign: “As a rapidly growing university in Africa, the AUN hopes to introduce the Schools of Engineering, Medicine and Public Health as soon as we have approval from the Institution’s board and the National Universities Commission.”
Ensign also reiterated AUNs commitments to supporting the orphans and Internally Displaced Persons in the North East region of the country, which has been devastated by insurgency.
Ensign said the institution is currently carrying out reconciliation programmes in Michika, Mubi and Madagali Local Government Areas of the state with a view to restoring hope and confidence in the minds of returnees.
She said the University is expecting sponsorship from the international community to expand its Peace Through Sports Programmes, Feeding and Reading Programme, as well as AUN/Adamawa Peace Initiative to Borno and Yobe States.
Ensign said: “AUN would replicate the programme of reaching out to orphans we have had for four years to Borno and Yobe States.”
Ensign thanked faculty members who she said have brought great honour and recognition to the University through their research and teaching, which solves societal challenges of the immediate environment.
The Assistant Vice President, Recruitment and Marketing, Linus Ikyuravm however, pointed out that 4,000 applications were received from all over the world for admission, out of which 121 applications were successful as under graduate students.
Eighteen were admitted for Post-Graduate programmes, as well as 18 others for Masters degrees.
Byron Bullock, who is the Vice President for Campus Life and Dean of Students Affairs, urged the newly admitted students to make every day in their life on the campus count.
One of the matriculated students, Abdullahi Muhammad from Gombe State, promised to justify the confidence reposed in him by his parents through hard work and dedication.
