Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has pledged to build a fully furnished, 200-seat lecture theatre for the Department of Political Science of the University of Ibadan.
This followed a request by the university made to the former vice president.
The new facility is to be built at the university’s new campus at Ajibode and is to be christened “Atiku Abubakar Lecture Theatre.”
The former vice president also accepted the request of the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, to give the university a bus as well as the request of the Dean, Social Sciences, Prof. A. Yagboyaju, for the renovation of the already run-down lecture theatre of that faculty.
In making the commitments, Abubakar said his greatest passion at the moment is education, promising that he would continue to promote it all over Nigeria.
He invited the University of Ibadan, the country’s oldest university, to accept an invitation for exchange programme with the American University of Nigeria, Yola, Adamawa State, which he (Abubakar) founded.
The former vice president was at the University to deliver a lecture entitled: “Thoughts on Internal Democracy in Nigerian Political Parties,” as part of the 50th Anniversary of the Department of Political Science.
