The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee investigating non-payment of June salary and other deductions in Local Governments has concluded its assignment.
The Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Alkali, presented the report to the Speaker on Tuesday during the House proceedings in Lafia.
The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, commended the committee for doing a thorough job within stipulated timeframe.
Abdullahi fixed September 9 for deliberation on the report.
NAN recalls that on July 16, the Assembly set up a six-man committee to investigate the finances of the state ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
This was due to non-payment of June salary to Local Government staff and other unnecessary deduction of Local Government funds in the state.
NAN also recalls that on July 22, Alkali, who presented an interim report, said it discovered series of abnormalities in the local government system in the state.
The speaker then approved additional three weeks for the committee to do a thorough job on the issue in order to bring total sanity to the system.
He added that the issue was affecting the entire state and directed the chairmen of the 13 local governments in the state to pay the June salaries unfailingly.
He said: “This report revealed 13 areas of concern and abnormalies such as indiscriminate promotions and implementations of promotions, duplication of names in the pay vouchers.
“Names of retired and deceased staff continue to exist in the payment voucher of local governments and same in development areas.
“It was also found out that by the allocation of June 2019 only four local government in the state can comfortably pay their salary 100 per cent.
“These are Awe, Keffi, Keana and Wamba and the other nine local governments cannot pay, due to paucity of funds compared to their wage bills.”
