Nigerian sprinter, Joy Udo-Gabriel, on Thursday said there was still room for improvement in her performances, in spite of winning a bronze medal at the ongoing 21st Africa Senior Athletics Championships.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Udo-Gabriel finished third in a time of 11.58 seconds in the women’s 100m event in Asaba.
Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Cote d’Ivoire had won the event’s gold medal in a time of 11.15 secs, while Ghanaian Janet Amponsah came second in a time of 11.54 secs.
Udo-Gabriel told NAN she was okay with the outcome of the race because she had competed with the best on the continent.
She said: “This is a good one for me and it shows that I am a ‘work in progress’ by sharing the podium with the likes of Ta Lou.
“I am improving day by day and I am happy winning my first African Championships medal here in Asaba.”
The 18-year-old bronze medalist said her next target at the championships was to win the gold medal for the country in the women’s 4x100m relays.
NAN reports that the championships which began on Wednesday will end on Sunday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
