As protest over killing of lawmakers spreads, Plateau imposes curfew

Protest over the killing of two lawmakers from Plateau state has continued to spread, The Eagle Online has learnt.

And owing to the protest, the Plateau State Government has imposed curfew on some parts of the state.
Reports reaching The Eagle Online has it that the protest started from Anguldi Zawan, which is close to Bukuru.
The protesters are unhappy with the killing of the lawmaker representing Plateau North Senatorial District, Senator Gyang Dantong, and the Majority Leader of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Gyang Filani.
Both men were killed by Fulani herdsmen on Sunday afternoon in Matse, Riyom, while attending the mass burial of about 50 persons killed by the same Fulani herdsmen.
The protesters took on members of the Special Task Force who attempted stopping them.
The reportedly exchanged gunshots with the STF team.
To stop the protest and reprisal, the state government on Sunday evening imposed a curfew on some parts of the state.
According to a short statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Yiljap Abraham, the curfew commences immediately.
The statement reads: “In view of the prevailing security situation, the Governor of Plateau State, Dr. Jonah Jang, hereby imposes CURFEW in the following areas: Jos North, Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs with immediate effect. The curfew has started from 7.30pm TODAY to 7.00 TOMORROW MORNING, while the curfew starts again 6PM tomorrow to 7AM daily till FURTHER NOTICE.”
