he Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong, has called on the inhabitants of Jos North Local Government Area and the entire citizens of the state to remain calm in the midst of the unfortunate multiple bomb blasts that hit the state again on Sunday night.
The Eagle Online reports that shortly after the blasts some youths took to the streets protesting.
This resulted in sporadic gunshots from security agents who were apt in containing the situation.
Report says the blasts occurred in the neighbourhood of Dilimi-Yan Taya and Bauchi Road.
It left no fewer than 18 persons dead and 18 injured as at 9.25pm on Sunday night.
However the state government says it is highly regrettable that the incident happened at a time Moslem faithful have settled in to the fulfilment of their religious obligation of Ramadan.
The state government said: “The unfortunate incidence of the sporadic bomb blasts at Bauchi Road and Dilimi-Yan Taya as well as the sporadic gun shots within the Jos Metropolis on Sunday 5th July, 2015 in this month of religious piety for the Moslem Ummah on the Plateau is highly condemnable.”
A statement by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to Lalong said the governor is deeply touched by the incidence and has chosen to commiserate with all the victims of this heinous act and called on all citizens of the state to remain calm and stand in solidarity with one another in the face of this onslaught by agents of death on the collective resolve to remain as one united people in spite of ethnic and religious differences.
The statement added: “The Government of Plateau State is more than committed to consolidating on the peace process that has seen the peace loving people of Plateau living in peace and standing united against the force of terror which seeks to set the people against themselves and portray the imaginary existence of religious divide with deliberate attacks on religious faithful at times like this. Government will most certainly continue with her on-going consultative peace dialogue with a view to fishing out agents of destabilization and wade off the spade of systematic attacks which seem to show that the eminent end of insecurity is not at sight.”
