Arsenal have completed the signing of Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain after agreeing terms on a reported four-year deal with the Real Madrid man.
The Emirates Stadium side had already come to a compromise in relation to a fee for the 25-year-old Argentine, forking out a club record £22 million for the former River Plate forward.
Higuain had then been given permission to enter final stage talks with the North London club, which were seemingly brief as Arsene Wenger had already met with the player’s father, Nicolas, who acts as his agent, to draw up the general terms of a deal during a meeting in Paris, France last month.
Wenger will look to bring in further established stars this summer and will feel that the capture of Higuain will aid in that regard, with the signing of a big name helping to prove that the Gunners do have the ambition, and the means, to improve their squad in a push to challenge for major honours.
Higuain has scored 122 goals for Real Madrid but found his first team chances severely limited under Jose Mourinho and Bernabeu President, Florentino Perez, had publicly announced his intention to sell the player long before Carlo Ancelotti was appointed to succeed the Portuguese boss.
Arsene Wenger will hope that Higuain will be able to better fill the void left by Robin Van Persie’s departure than last summer’s striker signing, Olivier Giroud, who had something of a moderately successful first term in the English top tier, scoring 11 Premier League goals and 17 in all competitions.
