Arsenal are suffering something of a defensive crisis at the moment, this means they could do with some extra cover. According to the Daily Mail, former Everton centre-back Joseph Yobo could be ready to sign as a free agent.
Joseph Yobo is a 101 capped Nigerian international who was most recently at Norwich City. He played 8 times during the back end of last season for the Canaries and previous to that had spent time with Fenerbahçe in Turkey. He played in 90 Super Lig games but really made his name for Everton in the Premier League. During his 10 years with the Toffees he played 220 Premier League games and established himself as an excellent defender.
Arsenal can sign free agents despite the transfer window being closed and this means there will be no issue with securing permission for Yobo to join. Another man they have been linked with is former West Brom defender David Lugano.
On Tuesday night against Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League opener, Arsenal only had 3 fit first team defenders. That meant Héctor Bellerin, 19-year-old right-back, started his first ever game for the Gunners. Arsenal were torn apart at the back against Dortmund and highlighted the need to improve. Arsene Wenger apparently feels Joseph Yobo is a solid back up to Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.
