Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has described the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin, as a distinguished personality and professional per excellence.
Aregbesola expressed regrets that he had to quit at this period the country is facing security challenges.
Aregbesola, who spoke at a dinner held in honour of the retiring Petinrin, urged him that now that he is outside the military assignment, the advice and wisdom of the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff will be needed in the transformation agenda of the Action Congress of Nigeria administration in the State of Osun.
In a letter of congratulations personally signed by him on behalf of the government and people of the State of Osun, Aregbesola said: “After a thirty-five years of meritorious service as Omoluabi, you have brought to the State of Osun and as you are bowing out, I am convinced that you still have a lot to contribute to national development in another capacity, I can assure you that we shall be pleased to welcome you into the fold of the progressives of the Action Congress of Nigeria as we believe that by the grace of God, we are forming the next government at the centre.”
The governor, who expressed appreciation to the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, for counting the Osun-born Nigeria Air Force chief worthy of the appointment, said the retirement of the Chief of Defence Staff caught him unawares because of the youthful look.
The Special Guest of Honour and acting Minister of Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada, said the exit of Petinrin leaves a big shoe to be filled.
Obada placed on record the astuteness and dynamism with which he led the Armed Forces.
Responding and in his words of gratitude to God, President Goodluck Jonathan and his military constituency, Petinrin said despite the security challenges facing the country, the military should remain disciplined, an indivisible entity and use intelligence gathering efforts to finally nip in the bud the security threat.
