Commissioners in the National Assembly Service Commission on Thursday distanced themselves from the appointment of Mohammed Sani Omolori as the Acting Clerk of the National Assembly.
They said the Commission’s Chairman, Adamu Fika, is overwhelmed by personal interests.
Fika had said the appointment of Sani-Omolori still stands because considering the Acting Deputy Clerk of National Assembly, Benedict Efeturi, for the position is against Nigeria Public Service rules.
The commission had last week Wednesday appointed Sani-Omolori, the Clerk of the House of Representatives, as the new Acting Clerk of the National Assembly to replace the outgoing Clerk, Salisu Maikasuwa, who will proceed on a terminal leave on May 14.
But in a letter dated April 26, 2016, sent to the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission and the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, by the commissioners, they said the issue of seniority between Sani-Omolori and Efeturi raised by Fika had since been laid to rest.
The letter reads in part: “From the forgoing, it would appear that you have become overwhelmed by your personal interests to the detriment of the Commission’s integrity.
“We the under signed Commissioners disassociate ourselves from your letter appointing Sani-Omolori as Acting Clerk of National Assembly and affirm that Ben Efeturi is the rightful person to assume that office based on seniority.
“Although you are the Chairman of the Commission, you are not the Commission.
“For above reasons, we cease to have confidence in your leadership and chairmanship of the Commission.”
The Commissioners that signed the letter were Paul Oweh, Joseph Oru, Idi Ningi, Abel Chukwu, Funmi Lamuye, Abu Rufai and Stephen Yepwi.
