Reprieve came the way of former boxer Ikechukwu Okoronkwo on Wednesday as the Court of Appeal in Enugu lightened his bail conditions.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the court varied the conditions of the bail it earlier granted Okonkwo over his inability to meet its conditions.
The Chairman of the panel, Justice M.O. Bolaji-Yusuf, requested the applicant to provide two sureties who needed not be civil servants as earlier prescribed.
Bolaji-Yusuf said that one of the sureties must provide evidence of possession of a landed property worth not less than N10 million with a valid certificate of occupancy within Enugu.
“The document (s) of the title must be deposited with the chief registrar of the Enugu State High Court,” she said.
Bolaji-Yusuf said that the varied conditions were in addition to the appellant’s document of title already deposited with the chief registrar of the high court.
The appellate court had on July 4, 2014 granted Okoronkwo, who is standing trial for advance fee fraud, bail on stringent conditions.
He was earlier ordered to present two civil-servant sureties each with landed property in Enugu.
The sureties were also required to deposit the original copies of their letters of appointment and last promotion with the chief registrar until the case was disposed of. (NAN)
