APC wins majority seats in Gombe State legislature

The All Progressives Congress in Gombe State has won 19 out of 24 seats in the state House of Assembly poll held on Saturday.

This is contained in the results made available by Umar Ibrahim, the Independent National Electoral Commission Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that 253 candidates from 34 political parties contested for the 24-legislative seats in the state.

Out of the 253 candidates, 18 or 7.12 per cent were female and out of the 18 females that contested the election only two emerged victorious.

The Peoples Democratic Party which presently holds the majority seats in the house with 16 members as against APC’s eight clinched the five remaining seats.

The APC won in eight local government areas including parts of Shongom Local Government Area while the PDP netted Billiri, Nafada and parts of Shongom.

The LGAs won by APC included Akko, Gombe, Yamaltu-Deba, Funakaye, Balanga, Dukku, Kaltungo and Kwami.
