The All Progressives Congress in the United Kingdom has saluted Nigerians on the occasion of her 57th Independence anniversary.
The UK arm of the ruling party eulogised the country for her ability to weather the storm, especially in the hard days.
A chieftain of the party, Hon. Ade Omole, lauded the leadership of the country under President Muhammadu Buhari for the achievements of the administration within the last two years.
Omole asked Nigerians to consider the country as their special place and continue to work for the promotion of democracy and enthronement of good governance.
According to him, politicians should emulate the leadership style of the current administration at the centre through promotion of a corrupt-free nation at the states and local councils levels.
Similarly, Hon. J K Adebola, who is also a party chieftain, charged Nigerians to ensure a peaceful co-existence among the regions of the country.
Adebola urged the nation to better enthrone the rule of law to help in building a stable democratic entity.
He said: “Apparently, we may not have achieved our desires in governance but it is apparent that our country has made visible progress with a better chance of doing more. What is required of us is to work towards strengthening our democracy and ensure we all work for the success of our country.
“We can achieve much more, when we have corrupt free society with workable rule of law, we will surely be counted among world powers, at this point, we cannot go back, our unity is not negotiable, we are bigger and stronger.”
Another party chieftain, Chief Chris Onumonu, counselled that security should be of great concern.
Onumonu saluted President Buhari for restoring peace and order in the country, most especially in the Boko Haram hit North East region of the country.
Arinola Lucas, APC UK Legal Adviser urged, Nigerians to do away with individuals and groups with the ideology of dividing the country, but rather work together to ensure a country where equity and justice prevail.
Lucas said: “Let’s avoid speeches and practices that can aid division among our people. As a nation, for us to attain our best, we must avoid hate speeches and come together as a people of common interest and destiny. Our country has enormous wealth and resources that are capable of making us bigger and stronger.”
The party encouraged the leadership to ensure that the ship of state is steered towards a progressive harbour.
Nigeria gained independence from the United Kingdom on October 1, 1960.
